Community & Do One Parties
Since October 2021, I have been documenting Manchester’s ‘Community’ and ‘Do One’ parties, led by Rainy City Music founder, and Mancunian legend, Irfan Rainy.
Throughout his 15 years of running the parties, Irfan has consciously ensured they remain strictly underground. Those who are in the know understand that these kinds of soulful parties are hard to come by nowadays, with groovers often travelling far and wide to attend. I spoke to people who will routinely trek it all the way from Glasgow and London just to hit one of Irfan’s dancefloors. The few who are lucky enough to stumble in from the street often can’t believe their eyes (and their ears).
These photographs are aimed towards documenting and preserving the culture and long tradition of underground House, Disco, Broken Beat and Afrobeat music in Manchester.
